British and Irish Lions – Tour of South Africa 2009
The British and Irish Lions Tour to South Africa is happening just around the corner May-July 2009! With matches and three Tests seven provincial games to be played in Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg, rugby fans worldwide are crazy prediction the long-awaited confrontation between the two giants of rugby.
Let's take a brief summary of previous meetings between the British Lions and Springboks South Africa over the past four decades. The most recent visit was more than a decade (1997), where the Columbia Lions managed a near whitewash, winning two of three tests and losing only two games. In 1980, the Springboks completed a 3 to 1 defeat on the Lions test matches, even if the Lions thrashed them 14 – 0 with the non-test games. In 1974, the Lions had the upper hand, not to lose any Test matches and winning the series, while the reverse that occurred in 1968, the Springboks crushed the Lions.
