Why British Rail was in such a hurry to get rid of steam in the sixties?
Some of these Trains have been only five years, but they all wanted the past 68. What was the urgency?
Modernization, there is the belief that the traveling public wanted trains were clean and efficient (Steam Trains are not of these). However, the race to remove debris and the stock of steam means that residual deposits BR could not cope, and much work has been farmed out to private contractors, including Dai Woodham Barry, South Wales. Dai Woodham took delivery of hundreds of drivers convicted, but with a contract to scrap massive condemned freight cars, is again by the early modernization, the Locomotives were put into storage in sidings. The heritage movement is now accelerating Conservatives and soon began to make offers for Woodham locomotives scrap or to return to work to rebuild or cannibalize the other. In total nearly 200 locomotives were rescued, from a small tank engines for passenger and heavy freight locomotives.
