Lner A4 Mallard
What engine should be off the most famous of these two and why?
The 2 options are: LNER Class A4 Pacific "Mallard" No. 4468 OR LNER Class A3 Pacific 'Flying Scotsman' No. 4472 OR if you don t like the two you like a pick and give a good reason for that. Give reason for your answer please, this is a poll, but I want some good answers. ERM as a personal injury, I would choose Mallard, but I do not like the word ok is the Locomotive.
Although both are record Locomotives deserve their place in history, I trend to 4472 simply because it is (or will be once it is operational again!) still working locomotive, not a museum piece. Unlike to "Mallard", it is still possible to experience the "Flying Scotsman" do what it was designed to do, which, as someone who was born well after the BR steam era ended, it felt more real to me. It is now left to taste "Union of South Africa" to fly the flag of the class A4, while "Mallard" is sitting silently on its pedestal in the National Museum railways. I think it's a bit sad, but I understand their reasoning for preserving the engine in this way. "Flying Scotsman" is Brush a bit like Trigger I imagine that the most original parts of the locomotive have been replaced over the years.
