Register Bombardier and Trenitalia 258 million contract for an additional tranche of 100 Locomotives in Italy
BERLIN, GERMANY – (Marketwire – October 14, 2009) – Trenitalia (Italian Railways) awarded Bombardier Transportation a new order to supply 100 more of its proven economic engines Electric E464. Priced at approximately 258 million euros (383 million U.S. dollars), the contract is a milestone for Bombardier locomotives Italy, having already received orders from Trenitalia for a total of 638 E464 locomotives, of which 480 are already in successful commercial service. The contract considers also an option for 50 more locomotives.
With these additional E464 locomotives, Trenitalia will be operating one of the largest single type of vehicle fleets in Europe, making it one of the first operators to benefit from significantly lower operating costs and maintenance. Delivery locomotives is planned between 2010 and 2012.

In addition to locomotives manufactured in Vado Ligure, the boxes and propulsion equipment will be provided BOMBARDIER MITRAC respectively by Bombardier sites in Wroclaw, Poland and Trapaga, Spain.
With power maximum of 3.5 MW and a maximum speed of 160 km / h, the locomotive E464 is particularly well known for its high level of reliability, availability and serviceability throughout its life cycle complete.
