What did they use to seal the bottles on the steam Locomotives?
This question was inspired by one of my father asked me not long ago, a question that even this improvement of the steam was puzzled about. Therefore, I humbly ask for your help answer his question. So what exactly did / do they use? On my 1 / 22 scale live steam, the cylinders using O-rings and seals, but I guess the full size engines use something different …
I'm not positive but I think they used graphite son packing and sealing rings.Graphite son is a string of cotton soaked in oil and graphite.Similar how a valve stem water is packed to seal in leaking.Like I say I'm not positive, but it seems I remember a guy old steam to tell me that years ago.
