What is the difference in gauge cables Speaker?
So what is the difference gauge cables speaker? This seems to be a common issue that we, audio seismic get (and several other companies get). First, let me tell you explain how the wire size is classified. The gauge speaker cable, strapped American Wire Gauge is the thickness of the wire. Then naturally you would think that 18 gauge would be thicker than 16 gauge wire, but this is not the case. It is actually the opposite. The higher the number the thicker the son. (Just in case I was not clear, 16 son of arms is thicker than 18 gauge.)
When it comes to speaker cables, you usually get cables that are at least 16 gauge. Now it's just a general assumption and it can be decomposed mathmatically determine exactly what gauge wire you need depending on the distance traveled audio. Except in extremely high power conditions, I can quickly give you a very conservative assumption, without making the calculation:
30 feet or less: 16 gauge
30-50 feet 14 gauge
50-100 feet: 12 gauge
100 feet or more: 10 gauge
These figures assumptions are only safe when it comes to the consistency of the audio. Many people will swear there is no difference a 14 gauge wire 100 feet and a 12 gauge cable at 100 feet. Some serious audiophiles will say you should never use less than 10-12 gauge wire which of the length of cable. So why is it important? To make things simple – the thinnest wire (remember, the more thinner the wire) on a long distance will establish its own impedance. This means a reduction in sound quality. Added impedance can significantly affect the overall sound quality and volume.
So, am I saying that you should only buy 10-12 gauge wire? No. In fact, I would say there is no need for anything other than cables from 14 to 12 gauge speaker as long as the cable length is under 100 feet. I just wanted you to know the difference and the meaning of the section of cable for speaker. Also, please understand that the speaker cables, cables instrument and microphone cables are all different. Diluent Wire gauge is actually correct for cables and microphone cables instrument. Well, I would say to the speaker cables you will not unless the cable 16 gauge. (I usually use 14 gauge wire.)
