BOMBARDIER TRAXX Locomotives to use the railways of the Hungarian State
BERLIN, GERMANY – (Marketwire – January 21, 2010) – Bombardier Transportation received a commission from the Hungarian State Railway Company, MAV for 25 Bombardier TRAXX AC locomotives P 160 estimated at 80 million euros (112 million dollars U.S.). The contract includes an option for a further 25 locomotives. Delivery of the first engine is scheduled for spring 2011.
According to AVM, locomotives, which operate with alternating current (AC), are intended for passenger service in Hungary as well as cross-border transport in Austria and Germany.
Dr. Imre Markus, CEO of MAV-TRAKCIO Co. commented: "Our investment project and the purchase of locomotives new TRAXX locomotives are very important for achieving greater energy efficiency in our fleet and replace older locomotives. The new locomotives will contribute to the modernization and efficiency of the Hungarian railways. They will MAV-TRAKCIO Co. to cut costs maintenance and continue to fulfill its contractual obligations for most international corridors. "
Ake Wennberg, President the Locomotives and Equipment Division of Bombardier Transportation, said: "The TRAXX Locomotive is itself proof superbly on the market. There are currently TRAXX locomotives around 800 in service in Europe alone. We are very pleased that AVM also has placed its confidence in our electric locomotives, and we can therefore contribute to the further development of rail passengers in Hungary. "
The TRAXX product family is designed for the transport of goods and passengers in domestic and international routes on all networks. It consists of three electric variants (multi-system, alternating and direct current locomotives) and a diesel-electric design. The TRAXX locomotives are characterized by their modular assembly as well as their innovative BOMBARDIER MITRAC propulsion and control, already used in over 3,800 locomotives worldwide.
The final assembly of the locomotives AC MAV will take place at Bombardier's Kassel, Germany. The car bodies will be produced at Bombardier's plant in Wroclaw, Poland, bogies in Siegen, Germany and the chassis bogie on our site Matranovak Hungarian. Sites of Mannheim and Hennigsdorf, Germany, will provide propulsion technology and controls, and equipment propulsion.
