Ge Launches Hybrid Road Locomotive first
U.S. multinational technology and services conglomerate General Electric (GE) recently announced have developed the first hybrid road locomotive. The engineering feat is part of "business Ecomagination" event held in Los Angeles, California. The initiative is an attempt to give the company a reputation of being a "green" society ". The road will be unveiled hybrid locomotive at Union Station to the City of Angels.
The development of the locomotive of the road aims to demonstrate the potential of the company to produce technologies that will reduce discharges of harmful substances into the environment. Some of these pests Substances that GE aims to eliminate or reduce road Locomotives are nitrous oxide and other particulate matter.
John Dineen President and CEO of GE Transportation, which is formerly known as GE Rail, has this to say after the announcement of the inauguration of the hybrid locomotive road: "This hybrid demonstration unit is another example of our commitment to invest in technology and provide new concepts innovative life. We will continue to support Ecomagination offerings by engineering products that help customers improve efficiency efficiency, reduce emissions and sustain a long life of reliable service. "
The vehicle is equipped with a hybrid group propellant which can produce up to 4400 horsepower. Similar to a hybrid gasoline-electric locomotive road is also equipped with a drum kit. But unlike a small hybrid car, the engine can be covered by a title = "Lebra" Lebra cover. " The design of the hybrid road locomotive also allows the batteries to the load during braking. As the braking system used by hybrid cars such as the Toyota Prius, hybrid road locomotive uses the energy produced during braking to recharge its batteries. According to the calculation of GE Transportation, Energy stored in the battery road locomotive can reduce fuel consumption by nearly ten per cent.
Steve Gray, GE Transportation Engineering Leader, praised the virtues of the Evolution ® Hybrid said: "This locomotive will reduce emissions while providing operating benefits to our customers consumer goods transportation and other raw materials by recovering energy wasted during Train braking. As we work to put the Evolution ® Hybrid locomotive to commercial production, our engineers use this locomotive as a living laboratory to work with our clients test, study, and refine our hybrid locomotive technology. "
In the development of locomotive Hybrid Bus in partnership with GE BNSF. The railway company GE has contributed to the development of hybrid powertrain for the vehicle. Mathew K. Rose Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of BNSF Railway Company has this to say: "BNSF is committed to helping develop new technologies that benefit our operations and the environment. We are proud to be partners with GE on the development of the hybrid locomotive, Alternative fuel research and testing of other technologies that optimize the performance of our locomotive fleet. "
