Famous People come from Newcastle
The world-renowned musicians to Soviet spies, Newcastle has been home to many renowned personalities. One of the most famous of them is Sting international singing sensation.
Gordon Matthew Sumner, Sting or as is more commonly known, was born in Wallsend in Newcastle upon Tyne. Before his solo career, he played the role of singer, bassist and composer of the popular band, police. By combining the two careers, Sting has sold over 100 million records, making him one of the most successful people coming from Newcastle.
Sting is also famous for his political activism after singing with Bob Geldof in the Global flows of the project and they know It's Christmas? More recently, Sting composed the songs for the album Tibet in order to support Tibet and the current Dalai Lama.
Although he can not share the same celebrity appeal as Sting, George Stephenson is another of many celebrities coming from Newcastle. Born in Wylam about nine miles outside of Newcastle, Stephenson is famous as the father of railways.
Born to a poor family, Stephenson has not received a formal education and thus, it has often been scorned by his peers. Despite this, Stephenson continued his own studies, the design of its first Locomotive in 1814 and again in 1825 the first opening of public railway Steam Locomotive.
One of the most unusual to meet Newcastle Vilyam Genrikhovich Fisher and Rudolf Abel, as he called himself. Born in 1903, Abel was a Soviet spy in high esteem was finally captured by the FBI because of his intelligence work in the United States.
Abel began his work as a spy after entering the GPU – the Soviet government as it was called then – in 1927. In 1947, he entered the United States as a spy. Role Senior Abel was to oversee the work of other spies and report information to headquarters. In 1957, Abel was arrested and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Another notable person to be born in Newcastle and find prestige outside the United Kingdom is Abhisit Vejjajiva, the current Prime Minister of Thailand. Having been the leader of the Democratic Patry since 2005 Vejjajiva was elected the 27th Prime Minister of Thailand at the end of 2008.
During his role in politics, Vejjajiva has faced much criticism, especially its attempts to control the new media. Editor Vejjajiva, the Democratic Party is a criminal offense to create all the websites that spoke ill of the Thai monarchy.
Although currently based in Thailand, Abhisit Vejjajiva continues to hold close links with Newcastle and is a lifelong fan of the football team city.
Newcastle has produced many figures of recognition, which gives him a unique reputation that attracts thousands of visitors each year. This, combined with a large number of flights to Newcastle and unique attractions the city make it a priority in the exploration of cities in the United Kingdom.
