The Rolls Royce of Rolls Royce
Honourable Charles Stewart Rolls was born August 27, 1877 and was the son of a wealthy family of the British nobility. As such, he could live the life of a playboy Edwardian. Instead, he chose to work and make significant contributions to the automobile industry aviation, both in New England at that time.
He first studied at Eton. During his time there, he was very interested in engines and never hesitated to get his hands dirty working on them. This earned him the nickname "dirty Rolls.
When he had finished at Eton, he signed for a "coach" to prepare for admission to Trinity College, Cambridge. He was admitted in 1894 and began to study mechanics and applied.
In 1896, when he was 18 years, Rolls went to Paris to shop for his first car. He bought a Peugeot Phaeton and joined the Auto Club of Paris.
When he has the Phaeton back to England, she became the first car in Cambridge and one of the first three cars of Wales.
He received a BA from Trinity in 1898 and then earned an MA
Upon leaving college, Rolls youth worked on a steam yacht, and was employed by the London and North Western Railway at Crewe.
However, his talent and passion lies in the automotive and technical engineering sales more. So in June of 1903, he borrowed £ 6600 from his father and founded one of the dealers in Britain first car, the CS Rolls and Co. Rolls has been active in promoting the car to England and joined the automotive traffic Association, an organization that campaign against restrictions on motor vehicles which had been imposed by the Act on Locomotives. He was also a founding member of the Automobile Club of Great Britain.
He was a friend in the club car that Rolls Royce has met Henry. Although Rolls preferred three or four cars cylinder he was impressed by both cylinder 10 Royce. On December 23, 1904, the two men signed an agreement that would buy Rolls Royce cars all could do. They would be marketed as a Rolls Royce. The first Rolls Royce, a power of ten, was displayed at Paris Salon in December 1904.
Then, in 1906, Rolls Royce Ltd. was established with Rolls employed as technical director. The two were a perfect combination. Rolls, capital and sense Royce business while providing technical expertise.
However, Rolls has also been active in promoting aviation. It was the second person in Britain to receive a pilot license of the Royal Aero Club.
It soon became bored with cars and wanted to devote more time to fly in 1909 when he resigned as technical director and became a non-executive director.
He bought a Flyer brothers Wright and June 2, 1910 has set a record as the first pilot to make a non-stop double crossing of the English Channel. His flight took 95 minutes.
He was killed on July 12, 1910 flight and became the first Briton to die in a plane crash.
