What was the last railroad in North America to use steam Locomotives?
Norfolk and Western was the last Class 1 (heavy commercial) railway to use steam Locomotive in revenue service. The last Y6 ran Bluefield VA in May 1960. In Moreover, the last Steam Locomotive made in the USA was built in the shops of N & W Roanoke VA in 1953, was a switch to 0-8-0. However, out of many small railroads and continued to use steam locomotives to transport goods of income for several years after the N & W was fully dieselized. The best known of these operations were in eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina RR, which ran two Ex-2-8-0s to Johnson Elizabethton TN City and South through the summer of 1967, and the Buffalo Creek and Gauley RR West Virginia, which lasted several 2-8-0 in mine managed service until 1967. The last engine BC & G is now the North Carolina Museum of Transport, where it was used for excursion Trains during several years. He is now scattered on the shop floor while funds are sought to rebuild the boiler to meet the latest standards security. They are short about $ 150,000, and it is a sad spectacle.
